Revenue Bonds Approved for Newport Harbor Apartments
Harbour-Newport News Limited Partnership plans on acquiring and renovating the 200-unit Newport Harbor Apartments located at 2301 Madison Avenue and have sought assistance from the Newport News Redevelopment and Housing Authority for the financing of the project. Last month, NNRHA approved the issuance of up to $18 million in revenue bonds for the acquisition, construction, renovation, rehabilitation and equipping of the complex. The issuance of the bonds also required Council approval, which they gave last night. The approval and issuance of the bonds for the benefit of Harbour-Newport News Limited Partnership does not constitute an endorsement of the creditworthiness of the project nor does it obligate the City or NNRHA to pay the bonds.
Asset Forfeiture Funds Appropriated
Last night City Council appropriated $12,600 from the Asset Forfeiture Fund for the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to purchase a three year Lexis Advance software subscription that will support 29 attorneys. Asset forfeiture funds are transferred from the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice to the Commonwealth’s Attorney as a result of police officers participating in state and federal criminal cases where the defendant’s assets are seized.
Other Actions
All items on last night’s regular City Council meeting agenda were approved, and the entire Council meeting can be viewed on-demand.
