Closings and Schedules For Christmas and New Year’s Holidays

• City Offices: Closing at noon on Fri., Dec. 22 and remaining closed through Tues., Dec. 26.

• Newport News Public Libraries:
o Closing at 1:00 p.m. on Fri., Dec. 22.
o Normal operating hours on Sat., Dec. 23. 
o Closed on Sun., Dec. 24 through Tues., Dec. 26.
o Resume normal operating hours on Wednesday, Dec. 27.

• Garbage, recycling and bulk waste collections: No garbage, recycling and bulk waste collection on Mon., Dec.  25. Collections for the rest of the week will be delayed one day, i.e., Monday’s collections will take place on Tuesday, Tuesday’s on Wednesday, Wednesday’s on Thursday, and Thursday’s on Friday.

• The Recovery Operations Center (formerly the Compost and Drop Off Facility)
o Closing at noon Fri., Dec.  22 and will remain closed through Tues., Dec. 26.
o Resume normal operations Wed., Dec.  27. 
 
• The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter: 
o Fri., Dec 22 - Reunite lobby open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (owner surrenders, owner reclaims, strays), Adoptions 12 – 7 p.m.
o Sat., Dec 23 - Reunite lobby open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.  (owner surrenders, owner reclaims, strays), Adoptions 11 – 5 p.m.
o Sun., Dec 24 - Reunite lobby open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.  (owner surrenders, owner reclaims, strays), Adoptions 12 – 4 p.m.
o Mon., Dec 25  - Reunite lobby open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (owner surrenders, owner reclaims, strays), Closed for Adoptions.
o Tues., Dec 26 - Reunite lobby open 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (owner surrenders, owner reclaims, strays), Adoptions 12 - 5 p.m.
