“Silence Empowers Violence… Break the Code”

The Catalyst Effect along with the Newport News Police Department, Human Services, Youth Services, Building Better Futures, and other community partners present the 1st Annual Silence EMPOWERS Violence… Break the Code Youth Symposium. On Thursday, December 21 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., youth between the ages of 10 and 17 are encouraged to attend the free symposium being held at South Morrison Family Education Center, 746 Adams Drive in Newport News. The Symposium inspires young people to lead the charge to combat the “stop snitching” code and build better relationships between citizens and police. The Catalyst Effect team connects participants in youth-led Community Care and Action Teams inspiring them to speak up and take community ownership.
Join the discussion as Symposium speakers talk about various forms of violence including gun, gang, drug, bullying, domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual assault, and more. In addition, youth can participate in “Real Talk” Q & A forums, break-out sessions, and a “Youth Call to Action” in addition to entertainment and door prizes.
