Exhibit runs until January 21, 2018
Peninsula Fine Arts Center's More Than Just a Pretty Face combines two exhibitions to explore portraiture through the ages – The Artist Revealed: Artist Portraits and Self-Portraits, courtesy of the Syracuse University Art Galleries Traveling Exhibition Program and A Closer Look, curated by Diana Blanchard Gross from local and regional artists, community collectors, galleries and museums.

This exhibition brings together works in a variety of media that examine self-portraits and portraits of other artists. Self-portraiture has a century’s long tradition in western art. As with traditional portraits, the objective for the artist is to capture a fair likeness of themselves. This can include a careful rendering of physical features and any pose, setting and clothing the artist deems appropriate. The other part of the exhibition examines artist’s depictions of other artists. The majority of images are of other visual artists, however there are representatives from other creative fields including music, literature, and film.
The Peninsula Fine Arts Center is located at 101 Museum Drive in Newport News. Although closed on Mondays, PFAC is open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sundays 1-5 p.m. Visit the
