The Newport News Ambassador Pass program, now in its 19th year, encourages Newport News residents and current City of Newport News employees to be “visitors” in their own hometown. Ambassador Pass holders receive free one-time admission to seven city attractions, valid for two adults and two children. It is valued at nearly $235.

12-18 ambassador passThe goal is to give pass-holders an opportunity to learn more about the wealth of activities available in Newport News so the information can be shared with visiting friends and family. Those requesting a pass will be asked to show proof of current residency or city employment. Ambassador Passes will be honored at the following attractions each week throughout the month of January:

January 2-8, 2018: Peninsula SPCA & Petting Zoo, Virginia Living Museum
January 9-15, 2018: Lee Hall Mansion, Peninsula Fine Arts Center
January 16-22, 2018: Endview Plantation, The Mariners’ Museum
January 23-29, 2018: Virginia War Museum

The passes are available for pickup from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily beginning today, December 18, at the Newport News Visitor Center, 13560 Jefferson Ave. Please note that on Christmas Eve, the Visitor Center closes at 1 p.m. and it will be closed Christmas Day and January 1. The passes can also be picked up between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays from Newport News Tourism, 702 Town Center Drive. The Tourism Office closes at 1 p.m. December 22 and will remain closed through December 26. It is also closed January 1. For those in the Southeast Community, passes can be picked up at the City Manager’s Office on the 10th floor of City Hall. The City Manager’s Office will close at noon December 22 and remain closed through December 26 (it is also closed January 1). Passes are available at the three locations throughout the duration of the program, which ends January 29, 2018.

The yearly Ambassador Pass program is underwritten by those attractions that typically charge admission. City residents and employees are also encouraged to visit the free attractions – The Newsome House Museum & Cultural Center, Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center, the U.S. Army Transportation Museum, and all of our city’s parks – while exploring Newport News. The James A. Fields House also participates in the program, but it is closed for repairs at this time.
