Concerts take place this weekend

The Virginia Choral Society is performing “HARK!” this weekend as part of its winter concert series. Under the direction of Sarah Frook Gallo, the choral group is joined by the Eastern Virginia Brass quintet and a professional percussionist. Celebrating the sounds of the season with familiar carols and new favorites, the program is peppered with pieces featuring brass, organ, percussion, and piano. “The music of our program, ‘Hark!,’ stems from a desire to notice the details of the changing seasons, the stories of our faiths, and all the ways in which we bring light to other people this time of year,” said Gallo.
For the third year in a row, members from local school choir programs are performing with the Choral Society at the concerts. Advance tickets are available for $15 or $12 for seniors, military or students and can be purchased on the Virginia Choral Society’s website. Tickets at the door are $3 more each with children 9 & under free. The remaining concert dates are:

Virginia Choral Society is a community-based choral group of 80-100 voices that presents three major concert series each year throughout Hampton Roads. VCS sings a wide variety of music and any given concert could include Broadway choruses, a large choral-orchestral work, jazz standards, folk songs, traditional favorites, or a commissioned work from a local composer. VCS is one of the oldest continuously performing choral organizations in Virginia having been organized in 1931.
