Active Lifestyles Program Hosts Variety of Holiday Events

12-7 active lifestylesThe month December can be a crazy and stressful time for a lot of people. Newport News Parks, Recreation and Tourism’s Active Lifestyles Program wants to remind citizens to make some time for yourself this holiday season by signing up for activities they have planned all month long. These festive activities are sure to boost morale and keep everyone in the holiday spirit, without breaking the bank. Check out the list below to see what you’re able to attend. 

Enjoy the Yuletide Greetings Program next Wednesday, December 13 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Knights of Columbus Hall (13451 Nettles Drive, Newport News). This free annual event has entertainment, a great holiday lunch, and door prizes. Call 591-4853 to register. 

Have Afternoon Tea & Social on Thursday, December 14 from 2:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. at Courthouse Way Community Center. Enjoy a selection of hot teas accompanied by guest speakers and great conversation. An afternoon lunch makes the day complete. Bring a dish to share. Free with pre-registration that ends on December 7, Call 886-7929. Courthouse Way Community Center. 

Also on Thursday, December 14, is the Life Line Screening® at Denbigh Community Center. Life Line Screening is the leading provider of Preventive Health Screenings to detect early risk for cardiovascular & heart disease, as well as certain types of cancer. Visits are by appointment only, starting at 9:00 a.m. Call 1-888-653-6450 to schedule. There is a fee based on tests offered during the appointment.

Take part in the Holiday Bingo Blast Friday, December 15, from 10:00 a.m. – noon at Brittingham-Midtown Community Center for a change of pace. This event is free but bring three $1 prizes. For more information call 591-4853. 

Create ornaments to decorate for the Holidays at the Make & Take Holiday Ornament Craft Session Monday, December 18, from 12:00 – 1:30 p.m. at Doris Miller Community Center. This event is free. For more information call  757-247-8603. 

Play Holiday Bunco on Monday, December 18 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Denbigh Community Center.Bunco is a fast-paced dice game, played with a partner, and includes laughter, lunch and prizes. The event is free but $5 for lunch. Reservations are appreciated by calling 757-812-7909.
Take a day trip to Harrington, DE for a little gaming at the Holiday Special to Harrington Raceway & Casino on Saturday, December 30. The regular price to attend is $50. Call Lucy at 757-247-2451 for more information and be sure to ask for the secret special rate!
