Virginia's Legendary Santa Trains
Join the Lee Hall Depot for a very special yuletide program on Wednesday, December 6 at 7 p.m. in the 1884 Warwick Courthouse,14421 Old Courthouse Way to discuss the book, Virginia's Legendary Santa Trains with author Doug Riddell and former Miller & Rhoads Snow Queen, Donna Strother Deekens.
Beginning in the 1950s, department stores around the commonwealth teamed up with rail lines to create a magical Christmas adventure: the Santa Train. Delight-filled children from Richmond and Alexandria to Roanoke flocked to see and ride the trains sponsored by Miller & Rhoads, Cox Department Store, J.C. Penney and many others. They traversed the rails across Virginia with Old Saint Nick himself aboard the train.
Join the authors as they recount these heartwarming memories of Christmases past, and chronicle the history of Virginia's Kris Kringle trains. The book is available for purchase and autograph after the program. Enjoy door prizes, Rudolph Cake with cocoa, ugly holiday sweaters and other fun activities. Sponsored by the Lee Hall Train Station Foundation, this event is free and open to the public. For more information call 757-525-7372.
