This weekend Newport News public libraries host a variety of family friendly events! Start things off tomorrow, December 1, at the annual Loosely Knit Craft Sale held at Grissom Library from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday, December 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Items for sale include hats, scarves, mittens, baby blankets, afghans, dish towels, ornaments, and more! Items are all handmade by the Loosely Knit Group – a group that meets regularly at Grissom Library. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Newport News Public Library System Foundation.
Also happening on Saturday, Main Street Library is hosting a grand opening celebration of their new makerspace from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Pearl Bailey Library is hosting their Super Saturday Holiday Fest from 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Main Street Library makerspace, known as Creative Corner, is the first of its kind in the Library System. Located on the second floor of the library within a bright and airy glass-enclosed room, the makerspace features several types of machines for use by teens and adults, including Silhouette and Cricut vinyl cutters, a 3-D printer, and more. Throughout the day guests can attend demonstrations and workshops, including holiday ornament and card making, patchwork designing, and farmhouse-style decorating. Registration is required for the demonstrations and workshops. For more information and to register, visit the library system’s website or call 757-591-4858.
Find something for all ages at Pearl Bailey Library Holiday Fest! Kids can enjoy holiday stories read by members of Pearl Bailey Library's Teen Advisory Committee from 10:30 to 11 a.m. and make their own slime filled ornaments between 11 and 11:45 a.m. Be sure to be there by noon to see Santa! From 1 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. adults can make holiday centerpieces and enjoy a holiday musical concert featuring “Time for 2” beginning at 2 p.m. Registration is required. For more information and to register call 757-247-8677.
All events are free and open to the public. For other programs and events happening any of the four public libraries in Newport News, please visit their website at nnva.gov/library.
