Conditional Use Permit for Tilt Studio
At last night’s meeting, City Council approved a Conditional Use Permit to allow for the operation of Tilt Studio in Patrick Henry Mall. Tilt Studio is a family entertainment center that will feature party rooms, over 100 amusement games, a bobsled ride, bumper cars, and mini-bowling as well as a two-level laser tag course.
Property for the Newport News Green Foundation
City Council also voted to transfer a surplus, City-owned parcel at 5101 Huntington Avenue to the Newport News Green Foundation. The foundation will create and maintain the property as green space in perpetuity. The Newport News Green Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life by preserving, transforming, and promoting green spaces throughout the city.
VDOT Urban Funds for Road Projects
Council approved a request to VDOT to reallocate $6,320,210 in residual Urban Funds from completed projects to six federally funded projects with funding shortfalls. VDOT Urban Funds require a 2% local match, which is $126,404.20. The six projects are: Chesapeake Avenue Bike Trail -- $500,000; Newport News Transportation Center -- $2,166,712; Fort Eustis Bridge -- $2,500,000; Oakland Sidewalks -- $100,000; Washington Avenue Bridge -- $553,498; and Oyster Point Access Improvements -- $500,000.
