A global movement held the Tuesday after Thanksgiving
This year, after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over, Tuesday, November 28 becomes #GivingTuesday, the day created for people to give back to charities and causes of their choice.
#GivingTuesday is a global giving movement built by individuals, families, organizations, business and communities in all 50 states and in countries around the world. In 2016, the fifth year of #GivingTuesday, millions of people in 98 countries came together to support the causes and charities that they believed in. Over $177 million was raised online to benefit an impressively broad range of organizations. Much more was given in volunteer hours, donations of food and clothing, and individual acts of kindness.
Many local private and public agencies, groups and organizations are joining in this year’s philanthropic event. To see who may be participating in the event near you, check the #GivingTuesday
