All Newport News City offices are closed on Thursday, November 23rd and Friday, November 24th in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. This includes City Hall, City offices at City Center at Oyster Point, Newport News Waterworks' customer service offices, the Public Works Operations Center, and both locations of the Treasurer's and Commissioner of the Revenue's offices. For evening, weekend, and holiday emergency and repair service, Newport News Waterworks customers should call 757- 234-4800.
Newport News Public Libraries are closed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24th; however, they will observe normal operating hours Saturday and Sunday.
The Newport News Compost and Drop-Off Facility (i.e., the landfill) located at 550 Atkinson Way will be closed on Thursday, November 23, Friday, November 24th, and Saturday, November 25. Normal operations resume Monday, November 27. Garbage, recycling, and bulk waste collections will be conducted as usual on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of the holiday week. Thursday’s collection takes place Friday, November 24. Normal collection days will resume on the week following the holiday.
The
Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter, which serves the residents of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson and York County, is
only open for owner surrenders, stray drop-offs, and owner re-claims from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and will reopen on Friday, November 24th for normal business.
