On Monday, November 6, Mayor McKinley L. Price performed the induction ceremony for the 2017-2018 Mayor’s Youth Commission. A total of 59 students from Newport News Public Schools, Peninsula Catholic, and Hampton Roads Academy serve as the voice of youth representing the diversity of all students. Every year the Mayor’s Youth Commission brings together young people from across the city to exchange ideas and examine important issues. The Commission demonstrates the commitment of Newport News to provide meaningful opportunities for young people to be involved in decision-making and policy development.
Established in 1979, the Commission has provided a tool for City leaders to hear from young people about what’s important to them and what can be done to bring about positive change in Newport News. The Mayor’s Youth Commission is supported by Human Service’s Youth Services Unit.
