Virginia Living Museum Holds Birthday Celebration

Posted on November 8, 2017 at 10:10 AM by Communications Department

$1.00 Admission on November 12

Come join the Virginia Living Museum as they celebrate their 51st birthday on November 12th from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with $1.00 admission. There are additional activities planned including special "birthday" themed enrichment for the animals. Opening in 1966 as the Junior Nature Museum and Planetarium, the facility expanded and was renamed the Peninsula Nature and Science Center in 1976.  In 1987, the facility again expanded and was renamed the Virginia Living Museum, becoming the first living museum east of the Mississippi combining the elements of a native wildlife park, science museum, aquarium, botanical preserve and planetarium. vml1

With a dome that revolves 360 degrees and a university-grade 16-inch Meade telescope, the rooftop Abbitt Observatory provides visitors with spectacular views of the sun, during clear days, and beautiful objects in the night sky, on designated evenings. Travel the universe in the Abbitt Planetarium, completely modernized in 2008 with a state-of-the-art digital projection system. In celebration of their birthday,  planetarium shows are also $1.00 in addition to museum admission.
