Workshop aims to reduce violence and improve youth safety
In an on-going effort to reduce violence, improve youth safety, and reinforce the city-wide efforts to create safe neighborhoods, the City of Newport News is hosting “Strengthening Our Community: Faith, Partnerships and Prevention” training. The free, one-day workshop is Monday, November 13 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at the Newport News Police Department Headquarters, 9710 Jefferson Avenue in Newport News.
This is an opportunity for faith and community-based leaders to develop the necessary skills to deal with the substantial levels of distressing or disturbing experiences (trauma) that can happen in a community. This training helps leaders build resilience in individuals and communities by offering a better understanding of trauma-informed care. This effort complements and supports the work begun through the Community Based Violence Prevention grant and the Choice Neighborhoods Initiative.
Seating is limited, so please register early. For additional information, please contact Traci Snell at 757-369-6808 or tsnell@nnva.gov. Online registration is required through the following link: Strengthening Our Community Nov 13 Registration.
