The Landscape Services Division of the Newport News Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department recently teamed up with the Virginia Cooperative Extension Office’s Master Gardener Program to recognize the 34th consecutive year that the City of Newport News has been a “Tree City USA” participant. The Tree City USA program has been greening up cities and towns across America since 1976. It is a nationwide movement that provides the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their public trees. Tree planting

The annual recognition ceremony, a requirement of the Tree City designation, was held at Riverview Farm Park and involved planting a weeping willow in the new decorative tree area of the Park’s “Grin and Grown” Garden. The Garden is jointly planted and maintained by the Landscape Services Division and Virginia Master Gardeners and contains a variety of plants known for their unique form and scents. Be sure to visit the garden to enjoy the special beauty and wonderful aromas!
