Due to a large inventory of mulch, the City’s Recovery Operations Center at 550 Atkinson Way is lowering the price of regular mulch from $10 per cubic yard to $6 per cubic yard until the stockpile excess is reduced. Offered at the lowest price ever charged for a premium product, both residential customers and contractors can take advantage of the reduced rate. The mulch is made from brush, limbs and logs collected through the city's Bulk Waste Program. Although most frequently used to enhance the appearance of flower beds, mulching also decreases moisture loss from evaporation and helps to inhibit weed growth. It is used throughout the city on highway medians and roadside plantings to surround trees and shrubs.
Although not on sale, the Recovery Operations Center also offers mulch fines and rough cut mulch for purchase. Mulch fines are very finely ground wood particles that sift out when wood goes through the grinder. Because they are very fine in size, they give a smooth uniform appearance when spread out. Mulch fines are generally used for gardens and flower beds requiring a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. Rough Cut Mulch is generally less aesthetically pleasing and is used for road beds and to supplement large mulch beds prior to topping with more visually appealing mulch products. To learn more about the mulch available, visit the Recovery Operations Center website or call 757-886-7947.
