Did you know Grissom Library offers programs for homeschooled students? Homeschooled students ages 5 to 11 can participate in “Homeschool Thursdays” every month. “Homeschool Thursdays” are STEAM programs (science, technology, engineering, art and math) that are designed to be stand-alone lessons that supplement what children are already learning at home. The next event is November 9 from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Past programs have included erupting rainbows, crystal snowflakes, naked eggs, and water pollution experiments.
Homeschooled teens, ages 12-17, can join the recently started Homeschool Book Club. The next book club meeting is Wednesday, November 29 at 2 p.m. to discuss Oogy, The Dog Only a Family Could Love by Larry Levin. Teens will also have fun playing games and enjoying snacks while meeting with other Book Club members.
Registration is required to participate in both events. Patrons should call Grissom Library at 757-369-3190 or register through
Newport News Public Library System online calendar.
