Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center kicks off the 3-Sixty Concert Series Friday, November 3 at 8:00 p.m., on the Ella Fitzgerald stage. Opening the show is jazz singer/songwriter Chantae Cann. Previously a background vocalist for artists such as India Arie and PJ Morton, this talented songstress has recently stepped into the forefront as a solo act. Cann uses her ethereal and soul-stirring voice to inject messages of positivity and self-acceptance into the minds of her listeners. Her sophomore project entitled Sol-Empowered was released on October 13th.
Headlining for the evening is jazz/soul/electronic musician DJ and producer Taylor McFerrin. Taylor inherited his creativity and musical prowess as the oldest son of Grammy Award-winning jazz vocalist and conductor Bobby McFerrin. His ability to weave sounds into genre-bending compositions gives him an original and unique identity. McFerrin’s live performances provide a robust and dynamic auditory experience by alternating between the homage to early hip-hop with the art of beatboxing and the digital creation of melodies with the synthesizer. On his project Early Riser, McFerrin has collaborated with other modern innovators of sound such as Robert Glasper and Thundercat.
The 3-Sixty Concert Series continues into 2018 with two performances - January 13 and March 10. Tickets for this show are $18 and are available now,
online and at the box office. The Downing Gross Cultural Arts Center is located at 2410 Wickham Avenue in Newport News.
