Registration For Winter Sports Closes November 7

Volunteer coaches needed for basketball, soccer, and field hockey

Newport News Parks, Recreation, and Tourism’s athletics programs are currently accepting registration for youth and adult winter sports. Both Newport News residents and non-residents can sign up online or in person until Tuesday, November 7. Youth participants can register for coed basketball, indoor field hockey, or indoor soccer and adults may register for coed indoor field hockey.

10-25 winter athleticsYouth basketball is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 15.  Registration costs, including a uniformed jersey, are $35 for Newport News residents and $50 for non-residents. Indoor field hockey and indoor soccer are both open to youth ages 5 to 17 with a registration fee of $25 for residents and $40 for non-residents. The same fees apply for adults interested in indoor field hockey. Practice for all sports starts in December and the season officially begins in January. 

The Athletics Department is also looking for volunteer coaches. Adults interested in coaching any of the winter sports should contact the Athletics Department at athletics@nnva.gov or 757-591-4892. Coaches must complete and pass an online criminal background check.
