In 2015, City Council appropriated $16.7 million to replace the Lee Hall Reservoir Dam. The work began in August 2015 and was divided into four phases to lessen flood risks while still allowing for use of the reservoir during construction. The fourth and final phase of the replacement project is now underway to complete the new principal spillway and remove the old hydraulic controls from the Lee Hall Upper pool. The entire project is expected to be completed later this year.

Phase 1 activities included the construction of a new 165 foot wide concrete principal spillway channel were completed in mid-2016. Later that year Phase 2 work was finished on the new 1,115 foot long armored emergency spillway embankment. Phase 3 activities to construct an outlet works facility were completed in the late summer of 2017. The City’s investment in this critical infrastructure should provide many decades of protection to the Peninsula’s water supply and flood protection for downstream properties.
