Newport News Public Libraries Host Halloween Activities

10-17 halloweenLooking for fun things to do for Halloween? Newport News Public Library System is hosting a few fun family activities. Visit Grissom Library for horror film screenings, pumpkin palooza, and Dia De Los Muertos.  Enjoy free popcorn along with old classic horror films Psycho on Friday, October 20 and The Shining on Friday, October 27 at 2:30 p.m. On Tuesday, October 24 at 6:30 p.m. come in costume for a spooky evening of pumpkin decorating, boo bombs, and mini piñatas, as well as a spine-tingling reading of The Spider and the Fly and special treats. All ages are welcome but everyone must register to attend.  Come back October 30 through November 2 to participate in Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead).  View the Grissom Dia de los Muertos ofrenda (altar), learn about the significance of the ofrenda, and bring copies of pictures and small items that symbolize a loved one's life to share.  While supplies last, kids can decorate sugar skulls to take home.

10-17 pumpkinGet into the Halloween spirit at Pearl Bailey Library on October 23 at 4:30 p.m. Come decorate a mini pumpkin while listening to some spooky Halloween tunes. The event is open to anyone age 7 and older. Registration is required to attend. Main Street Library is hosting a costume story time for the entire family. On Tuesday, October 24 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., kids and their parents are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite book character, superhero or in a Halloween costume for fun Halloween stories and a craft.
