Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism presents the

27th Newport News Children's Festival of Friend Saturday, May 7, from 10 AM - 5 PM at Newport News Park. Children can meet their favorite book characters including Curious George, Madeline, and the Berenstain Bears; see animals from the Virginia Living Museum, ZooPro, and Gum Tree Farm; and make crafts from recycled items with the Scrap Exchange.
The festival features over 100 hands-on activities including make-and-take crafts, rides (pony rides, trackless train, tiki rock wall, moon bounce, slide), fitness activities (gymnastics, obstacle course, tennis), educational exhibits (science experiments, gardening, farm animals and sheep shearing), and displays by City Departments and community organizations that serve children.
Park Rangers will have a special display about Newport News Park, children will receive a coloring book and face tattoo both featuring the Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism mascot Parker the Squirrel. The youngest festival guests can play in a special “Happy Campers” Pre-school Play Area, and everyone can pose for photos in a special anniversary photo booth.
There is a $5.00 parking fee per vehicle. Festival admission and all activities (including all rides) are free. Food vendors will be on site. No pets are permitted in the festival area. For more information, call 757-926-1400 or visit the
