Heritage and Menchville High Schools’ Robotics Teams Showcase STEM Programs at Event

Posted on October 4, 2017 at 1:50 PM by Daniel Kvaternik

Guests at yesterday’s event were able to interact with robots designed by teams from both Heritage and Menchville high schools. The teams were there to show guests the type of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) programming offered by Newport News Public Schools, as highlighted in the Mayor’s speech.  Both teams offered demonstrations of their robots that talked, waved, and gave guests candy.  Students on site shared information about participating in competitions, what materials were used to create the robots, and how they went about programming each robot. Robot 2

Guests were also able to witness students program 3-D printers to print key chains, wear virtual reality glasses, and watch 3D animations and simulations. Both Heritage and Menchville High School robotics teams have won numerous awards and competitions nationally for their robots. Visit the NNPS website to learn more about the STEM programs available and visit the websites of Heritage High and Menchville High to learn more about their award-winning robotics teams.
