“Every Second Counts! Plan 2 Ways Out!”

The Newport News Fire Department is once again teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association for Fire Prevention Week 2017, October 8-14. This year’s campaign, titled “Every Second Counts! Plan 2 Ways Out!,” effectively serves to remind everyone of the importance of home escape plans and practicing drills. In celebration of Fire Prevention Week, the Newport News Fire Department is hosting an open house event at the Oyster Point Fire Station, located at 685 Oyster Point Road, on October 14 from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. This event is free and open to the public!
Stop by as NNFD firefighters educate visitors on fire safety with station tours, see demonstrations from Specialty Teams, enjoy children’s activities, meet Sparky the Fire Dog and even take a look at the Mobile Education Unit. In addition, representatives from the City’s Office of Emergency Management, the NNFD Citizen Fire Academy Alumni and Backing the Thin Line will be on hand to answer questions and provide displays.
Take time next week to make sure you have working smoke alarms, a home escape plan with two exits from each room, and a safe place to meet outside. Your family can stay safe from fire by taking a few simple precautions. Visit
