Yesterday, May 3rd, was Election Day for local officialsin many cities and towns across the Commonwealth of Virginia. In Newport News, voting was held for seats on Newport News City Council and the Newport News School Board in all three districts.
City Council Results
In the north district, Marcellus Harris unseated Rob Coleman with 53% of the vote.Central district incumbent Patricia Woodbury held off Mike Mullin with 55% of the vote. Tina Vick defeated challengers Nicole AllmondJoy and Hakima Muhammad with 65% of the vote to keep her seat in the south district

School Board Results
Marvin Harris received 42% of the votes to win over Curtis Bethany and Valerie Young and fill the north district seat of Darian Scott who did not seek reelection. Shelly Simonds ran unopposed to keep her central district seat. John Eley received 31% of the vote to edge out four others – Sheryl Holmes
Abbott, Terri Best, Bethany Martin and Yugonda Sample – to fill the south district seat being vacated by Teddy Hicks who also opted not to seek reelection.
