Unsure what you can and cannot place in your recycling cart? The Department of Public Works has a solution for you. The department now has stickers available to Newport News residents that identify which items are recyclable in the residential recycling program. These 8-1/2” x 11” stickers can be placed on your City-issued cart, on your own recycling container inside your house or wherever it’s most beneficial to you and your family.
You can recycle plastic tubs (such as yogurt, butter, or ice cream containers) and plastic or glass jugs and jars as long as they are emptied and rinsed. Other recyclable items include cans, foil pans, flatten cardboard, and paper, and the City recently added cartons to the list of items that are accepted in the recycling program.

Newport News residents who would like a sticker mailed to them can visit
