Virginia Fire Equity and Diversity Conference, Oct. 15-18
The Newport News Fire Department is hosting this year’s annual Virginia Fire Equity and Diversity Conference (VFEDC) October 15 – 18 at the Newport News Marriott at City Center. The goal of this conference is to send public safety employees back to work with a higher level of understanding, respect, and tolerance for the differences among them, in both the workplace and in the communities they serve. Although hosted by a fire department each year, the conference is open to those who serve in public safety, first responders, and members of the military.
“We believe today, more than ever, the inequities that still exist in the world need to be addressed and actions need to be taken to help overcome them. We are planning what we believe to be the best educational and networking event in public safety. We are assembling the most knowledgeable group of friends we can find,” Deputy Chief Kenneth Lay said.
Early bird and group registration discounts available until September 30. Sponsorship and vendor opportunities are also available. For more information about the conference, speakers and schedule of events, visit
