Newport News Mayor McKinley L. Price has proclaimed the

week of May 1 - 7, 2016, as Public Service Recognition Week in the City of Newport News. Mayor Price is asking citizens to join with him in recognition of the many contributions and accomplishments of government employees at all levels.
“Public service is a noble profession and one that often goes unrecognized,” said Mayor Price. “This week we take the time to celebrate the professionalism, the resourcefulness and the hard work of public servants, and say ‘thank you’ for being dedicated to making a difference in lives of your fellow citizens.”

Americans are served every single day by public servants at the federal, state and local levels. Many public servants, including military personnel, police officers, firefighters, border patrol officers, embassy employees, health care professionals and others, risk their lives each day in service to the citizens of the United States and around the world.
Other public servants include teachers, doctors, scientists, astronauts, nurses, safety inspectors, laborers, computer technicians, social workers and more. Day in and day out, they provide the diverse services demanded by citizens of their government, with efficiency and integrity. These public servants, at every level, help ensure continuity in a democracy that regularly changes its leaders and elected officials.
