Enjoy a Weekend of Activities During the 27th Annual Southeast Community Festival

The 27th Annual Southeast Community Day Parade and Festival take place this weekend. Activities are going on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and include the largest parade in the City of Newport News and live gospel music! The festivities begin Friday, September 8, at 6:00 p.m. with the Andrew Shannon Gospel Music Celebration and Presidential Reception at First Baptist Church East End, 3000 Jefferson  Avenue (tickets required). The annual parade starts at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 9, and travels from Booker T. Washington Middle School to Zion Baptist Church Grounds at 633 20th Street, with the parade viewing stand at 2016 Jefferson Avenue. Watch as marching bands from around the United States participate and some of Virginia’s finest perform energetic routines. The parade is immediately followed by the festival which takes place right where the parade ends at the Zion Baptist Church Grounds from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Activities include more music from the Andrew Shannon Gospel Music Celebration, urban contemporary music, a children's stage and a commemorative march in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 12:30 p.m.se parade

The gospel music continues Saturday evening at 6:00 at Calvary Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1200 17th Street featuring national recording artists, and regional, state and local entertainment. The weekend events culminate on Sunday, September 10 with the Andrew Shannon Gospel Music Celebration again from 3:00 p.m.– 6:00 p.m. at Messiah Baptist Church, 1152 24th Street in Newport News.
