For more than 60 years, Hampton Roads Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine (HROSM) has been providing quality orthopaedic care to area residents. HROSM’s first office opened in the 1950s on Main Street in Newport News and HROSM has called Newport News home ever since. Originally founded by Dr. Wieman Kretz, the first orthopaedic surgeon in the area, HROSM has evolved to meet the growing demands of the ever-changing orthopaedic industry.
Today, HROSM has 12 physicians, 10 physician assistants, and three locations offering specialized orthopaedic care to include joint replacement, sports medicine, spine care, podiatry, interventional pain management, stem cell therapy, and chiropractic care. HROSM’s Newport News campus, 
located at 730 Thimble Shoals Blvd in City Center, also offers onsite physical therapy, a workers’ compensation team, and the area’s only open, multi-positional MRI.
Last month, HROSM expanded its service lines to include urgent care with the opening of Hampton Roads Urgent Care (HRUC) at the Newport News campus. HRUC is the first on the peninsula to offer a unique urgent care center that combines three specialties under one roof – Orthopedic Medicine, Occupational Medicine, and General Medicine. HRUC has specialty trained physicians and physician assistants able to provide medical care for general health concerns including acute illnesses such as a cold, cough, or the flu, as well as workplace injuries and acute orthopedic injuries such as sprains, strains, and fractures.
In support of the mission of “keeping bodies in motion,” the physicians at HROSM are also educators, volunteers, and leaders within the community and enjoy being able to give back to Hampton Roads residents. From educating players and coaches in the prevention of sports-related injuries to offering quality orthopaedic healthcare to those less fortunate, the physicians at HROSM are dedicated to community involvement.
