Residents can now recycle cartons as part of the City of Newport News’ recycling program. Examples of cartons that are recyclable include milk, juice, broth, soup, wine, and more. When recycling cartons, please empty, rinse and recap without flattening the carton. Cartons need to be in three dimensional shape to be sorted at the plant. The city offers co-mingled recycling making it convenient for residents to mix their recyclables (plastic, paper, glass, etc.) in their authorized recycling container.
As a reminder, items such as cans, foil pans, flatten cardboard, and paper can all be recycled in the City’s program. Residents can also recycle plastic tubs (such as yogurt, butter, or ice cream containers) and plastic or glass jugs and jars as long as they are emptied and rinsed.
