Yesterday, the Summer Training and Enrichment Program (STEP) honored their participants and jobsite partners with a closing ceremony. This year, 435 youth and young adults, ages 16-24, were placed with more than 70 organizations to gain work experience. They convened at City Center Marriott to celebrate their accomplishments. City Manager Cindy Rohlf, Assistant City Manager Alan Archer, Mayor McKinley Price, Vice Mayor Tina Vick and City Council members Bert Bateman, Saundra Cherry, and Sharon Scott were all on hand to congratulate the participants and organizations for a job well done.
Keynote speaker, Alvean Lyons, CEO of A.L. Inc., took a few minutes encouraging participants to value themselves and live beyond their circumstances. There were five special awards given to worksites who were nominated for going above and beyond to reflect the mission of STEP:
This year’s STEP program wraps up with 22 participants who were offered permanent positions and 13 participants who are enrolling in a workforce development career certificate program with New Horizons.
