Discover Endangered Species and More Before Specialty Tours End

Posted on August 18, 2017 at 8:57 AM by Communications Department

Walk and learn as you encounter wildlife and endangered species at Virginia Living Museum

As August is winding down and the prospect of school beginning looms, now is the time to take advantage of several Virginia Living Museum (VLM) specialty tours that are ending this month.

Fridays at 3:00 p.m., through August 25, see several of the 24 species of turtles found right here in Virginia on the Turtle Talk & Tour. The tour includes exciting facts about snappers, sea turtles  and sliders.  The tour is limited to 12 guests ages 3 and above and last 45 minutes. Purchase your turtle tour tickets here.

On Thursdays at 3:00 p.m. through August 31, meet the museum’s federal and state endangered and threatened species during the Endangered Encounter Tour. These tours show off a variety of protected animals such as the Loggerhead sea turtle, Wood turtle, Bald Eagle, Red Wolf, Shortnose sturgeon, the Barking treefrog, and more. This special tour explores the status of these fragile creatures and their future survival. The tour goes throughout the museum and behind the scenes to see how these at risk animals live, and why they are protected.

In addition to museum admission, the cost for these tours is $12 for VLM members and $14 for non-members. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and be prepared for extended walking. The Virginia Living Museum is located at 524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd. in Newport News. For more information, call the Virginia Living Museum at 757-595-1900.
