Those who are on a monthly payment plan with the Newport News Circuit Court can now make their payments online. The Virginia Judiciary Online Payment System launched this month and securely processes payments of fines, fees, restitution and costs for traffic and criminal cases disposed of in the Circuit Court.
According to Circuit Court Clerk Gary S. Anderson, there are more than 750 individuals on monthly payment plans with 40-60 people paying on their accounts over the phone each day by credit card. This new online system offers those citizens the ability to make a payment when it’s convenient for them, and not just during office hours.
Payments made prior to 7 p.m. will be credited that day, while payments made after 7 p.m. will be credited the following business day. A 2% credit card convenience fee applies per transaction, which is the same rate applied if a customer makes a payment over the phone or in person with a credit card. The Virginia Judiciary Online Payment System will be down for maintenance for approximately one hour each day, generally between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m.
