Newport News Sheriff’s Office Open Recruitment Day

Posted on April 29, 2016 at 9:54 AM by Communications Department

On Saturday, April 30th, the Newport News Sheriff’s Office (NNSO) is holding its second Open Recruitment Day. Sheriff Gabe Morgan4-29 sherrif 3_SC has streamlined the employment process so that successful applicants will go from tryout to job offer in 60 days. NNSO is the first in Hampton Roads to offer a “one-stop” employment day for the job of deputy sheriff.

The Open Recruitment Day begins at 8:00 AM inside Council Chambers at 2400 Washington Avenue where applicants will be briefed about what it means to be an NNSO deputy and what they’ll face during testing. Next, they’ll divide into groups to be put through their paces – doing physical/agility tests like running, sit-ups, firing a weapon and more. At the same time, NNSO personnel will be conducting background checks and other screenings. Those who pass will get a break and then take a written test.

Applicants will know that day whether they meet basic requirements for the position and then learn what comes next. Men and women who don’t pass this time can re-apply in a year.4-29 sherrif 2TR_SC

The first recruitment day was held in January. Of the two dozen applicants, 13 made it through the initial day of screening. Nine of those candidates successfully completed the entire process and are now working for the Newport News Sheriff’s Office.
