Captain Eric D. Randall is being promoted to Assistant Chief of Police for the Newport News Police Department. Captain Randall currently serves as the South Precinct Captain and has been with the department for over 19 years. He assumes his new role August 14.

“Captain Randall has been an asset to the Department for many years. His vast experience will be of great value in his new role and we look forward to his continued contributions to helping us achieve our mission of reducing crime and the fear of crime in the City of Newport News,” said Chief of Police Richard Myers.
Captain Randall began his career with Newport News Police Department in 1998 as an auxiliary officer. In February 2000, he became full time with the department and worked as a patrol officer, bike officer, field training officer, narcotics detective, and explosive breacher on the department’s Tactical Operations Unit. After being promoted to Sergeant in 2006, he served as a patrol supervisor in the North Precinct and also as a supervisor in Narcotics, Special Investigations and Organized Crime.
In February 2010, he was named Lieutenant and served in a variety of assignments to include Acting Precinct Commander, Acting Criminal Investigations Commander and as the Tactical Operations Unit Commander. In November 2014, he was promoted to Captain of the South Precinct.
Captain Randall earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Saint Leo University, and is also a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police. During his law enforcement career he has received numerous awards and commendations.
