Registration for Before and After School Programs Now Open

Looking for before and after school care for your child? Newport News Parks, Recreation and Tourism-Youth Programs is the place to come! Baseball_SC With convenient locations at elementary schools and community centers throughout the city, before and after school programs provide a wide variety of activities including crafts, STEM activities, sports, station play and more. The Youth Programs staff is highly trained to work with children of all ages.

The following licensed programs are available:
• All-day Early Childhood Program for ages 3-5 (not in kindergarten) at Brittingham-Midtown Community Center and Denbigh Community Center;
• Before and after school care at Denbigh Early Childhood Center and Watkins Early Childhood Center for those kids who are in the NNPS Early Childhood Program;
• School Age Program for Kindergarten-5th grade located throughout the city at most of the elementary schools; and
• Middle School Program for 6th-8th grade located at Brittingham-Midtown Community Center and Denbigh Community Center.

The Before and After School Programs take place 6:00 a.m. – start of school and end of school – 6:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. The Early Childhood Programs take place all day from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Early registration is now through Sunday, August 13. There is a non-refundable fee of $25 for individual and $50 for a family. Regular registration begins Monday, August 14 with a non-refundable fee of $40 for individual and $80 for a family. The weekly fee is $95 for the full day program, $45 for before only, $59 for after only and $79 for before and after. This price includes child care and a hot afternoon snack.

Youth Programs also offers a Homework Club at Doris Miller Community Center for grades K through 8th for a one-time $50 registration fee, as well as a drop-in program at South Morrison Family Education Center for ages 6-16 for a one-time $25 registration fee. Both of these programs take place from 3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
