Be alert for changes at I-64 westbound exit 255
The city and VDOT are working to reduce congestion around the I-64 and Jefferson Avenue interchange through a series of improvement projects.

The first to be implemented is a change to the westbound exit road at I-64 Exit 255 that allows two lanes to exit the interstate. During heavy afternoon traffic, the current single exit lane becomes clogged with traffic preventing drivers from getting to their exit and causing a backup in the right lane of I-64. The additional lane improves access from I-64 to Jefferson Avenue by providing dedicated lanes for exiting traffic heading north to Kiln Creek and south toward Patrick Henry Mall.
The new exit signs designating the lane assignments and pavement markings on I-64 are being installed the week of August 7. The VDOT message boards installed in the area advise motorists to be alert for the new traffic pattern.
