Help Save a Life, Donate Blood

Posted on July 18, 2017 at 8:12 AM by Communications Department

The American Red Cross is facing a critical blood shortage and is issuing an emergency call for eligible blood and platelet donors of all blood types to donate. Blood donations typically decrease during the summer months. Red Cross Logo_SCThis is due to fewer volunteer-hosted blood drives at places of work, worship or community gatherings and regular donors delaying donations while they vacation and participate in summer activities. Help save a life. Get involved by scheduling an appointment to donate using the free Blood Donor App, visiting, or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).

The Red Cross has added more than 25,000 additional appointment slots at donation centers and community blood drives across the country over the next few weeks to accommodate more donors. Upcoming blood drive events can be found on the website by entering a zip code in the “Find a Blood Drive” area of the website. Donation appointments and completion of a RapidPass online health history questionnaire are both encouraged to help reduce the time it takes to donate. You can also host a blood drive or volunteer to assist at a blood drive location.
