National campaign runs July 18-August 19
The Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter, in partnership with WAVY-TV 10, is excited to take part in this year's “Clear the Shelters” campaign. This is the first year the regional shelter is participating in the nationwide promotion that works to find a forever home for each of their animals. The campaign lasts four weeks and leads into the

“National Clear the Shelter Day” on Saturday, August 19. For each week of the campaign the shelter is highlighting different animals available for adoption through various education and adoption promotions.
• Week 1 is all about pocket pets, everything from hamsters to reptiles.
• Week 2 is dedicated to senior animals, highlighting all dogs and cats over 8 years old.
• Week 3 focuses on the "Yellow Dog Project” bringing awareness to and encouraging adoption of dogs/cats with special needs and considerations.
• Week 4 brings attention to pit bulls and providing a better understanding of the breed.
On August 19, the last day of the campaign, the Peninsula Regional Animal Shelter is opening their doors from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for a daylong event. The shelter is offering reduced adoption fees for all of their animals and is offering same-day adoptions.

All cats, dogs, puppies and kittens are spayed or neutered, micro chipped and provided with age appropriate vaccines. For more information or for any questions please contact the shelter at 757-933-8900, visit their
Facebook page or stop by for a visit at 5843 Jefferson Avenue in Newport News.
