Learn the Signs of Human Trafficking

Wesley United Methodist Women and Bon Secours Mary Immaculate invite the public to join in a discussion on human trafficking. Free and open to the public, the event features a presentation from Bon Secours experts about issues relating to this growing crime.Trafficking Flyer_SC Learn the signs that could indicate a person is involved with trafficking; hear how underage girls are being trafficked in our own backyard; and discover what happens when a person asks for help. The presentation is Tuesday, July 18 at noon at the Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Health Resource Center, Auditorium B at 2 Bernardine Drive in Newport News.

According to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, human trafficking is described as a form of modern slavery that occurs in every state in the country, including Virginia. It is also the second largest criminal industry in the world. Attorney General Mark R. Herring has indicated that "Human trafficking is an emerging public safety threat across our nation, including here in Virginia. Trafficked victims don't come from any one place. They come from large cities, small towns, different socioeconomic situations and diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds….” Come join the discussion. To register call 757-838-3044.
