Reporting Streetlight Outages

Posted on April 26, 2016 at 9:27 AM by Communications Department

There are over 25,000 streetlights in Newport News. About 20,000 of them are owned and maintained by Dominion Virginia Power (DVP), and most of the rest are owned and maintained by the City. Usually, street lights that are more decorative are owned by the City because there were limited options for decorative lights provided by DVP. The bulbs generally last from three to seven years depending on their type, and both the City and DVP perform routine replacements annual surveys to identify and repair outages.

Newport News will pass along requests for fixing outages for any streetlight in the city. It is always helpful if you can provide a picture or information about the location such as the nearest street address and pole number. Citizens have several options for reporting streetlight outages through our 311 Contact Center:
Phone: 757-933-2311
Email: 311@nnva.gov
Website: www.nnva.gov/311
Mobile App: available for iPhone and Android

Citizens can also call DVP directly at 1-866-DOM-HELP (1-866-366-4357) or use the DVP email form
