The Newport News Green Foundation, a nonprofit that works to enhance the quality of life in Newport News through the preservation of green space,

recently closed on its 20th property. Located at 1351 39th Street, the .21 acre parcel sits at the Newport News/Hampton City boundary. In all, this acquisition brings the total land preserved by the Newport News Green Foundation to 26.24 acres.
Since the parcel borders the city line, the Foundation is exploring how they can create a green gateway welcoming people who travel from Pembroke Avenue to 25th Street into Newport News. Newport News Green Foundation believes that preserving green spaces contributes to the overall experience of and improvement to the community by making it more attractive. Reducing blight, preserving wooded areas, and transforming vacant lots contributes to making the city safer, attracts business, and attracts people who want to live and raise families here.
