Sister Cities Looking for Chaperones for Youth Leadership Summit

Are you a young professional eager to gain volunteer experience, network with international affairs experts, and learn about citizen diplomacy? Be a chaperone at the 2017 Sister Cities Youth Leadership Summit, July 12-16 in Virginia Beach. SCNN Chaperones_SC The deadline to apply to be a youth chaperone has been extended until June 30th. The Youth Leadership Summit is a special track of sessions and activities for high school youth from across the country.

The 2017 Summit includes a service learning project and Model United Nations (UN) simulation that engages participants on important global issues facing governments and people from around the world. The Summit also includes opportunities for participants to interact with foreign diplomats, government officials, and mayors from the U.S. and abroad to discuss global diplomacy and current events.

Youth chaperones are responsible for helping Sister Cities International staff during Youth Leadership Summit sessions, speaker events, off-site visits, and other activities. Chaperones are required to stay overnight with the youth in the residence halls (in separate rooms) at Virginia Wesleyan College during the Summit. During break-out sessions at a Model UN simulation, chaperones are responsible for assisting Summit students and are instrumental in moderating small group discussions.
