The Newport News Police Department welcomed 13 new officers earlier this month. The officers completed nearly six months of rigorous training in both a classroom setting and in practical scenarios. Before the graduates can be assigned to one of the Department’s three precincts (North, Central and South), they must complete additional field training with officers before being released for independent patrol.
Members of the department, the graduates, and their families celebrated at the ceremony held at Christopher Newport University’s Freeman Center. Virginia Senator Monty Mason served as the keynote speaker for the event. The Newport News Police Honor Guard and the Newport News Police Pipes & Drums also participated in the ceremony. The Newport News Police Department is currently accepting applications
for police officer recruits, part-time police officers, and police aides.
