Now Accepting Applications for Police Officers and Police Aides

Posted on June 20, 2017 at 8:10 AM by Communications Department

The Newport News Police Department is accepting applications for police officer recruits, part-time police officers, and police aides. The positions are offering a $2,000 sign-on bonus. Applicants are required to take a four hour written test, a physical agility test, and submit to fingerprinting.
To qualify, applicants must be between the ages of 20 and 67 and possess a high school diploma or GED. Applicants who have separated from any military service (including Reserves or National Guard) must present a DD-214 in addition to copies of performance evaluations for at least three years. Applicants must not have been convicted or pleaded guilty or no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in the Commonwealth.

To apply, applicants should complete an online application and call the NNPD recruiting division to pre-register to take the written test and physical agility test. Written tests are administered at Newport News Police Academy, located at 5851 Jefferson Avenue, or Newport News Police Headquarters, located at 9710 Jefferson Avenue. The testing location is determined during pre-registration. Physical agility tests are being administered on Wednesdays at 8 a.m. at Todd Stadium until August 30. For more information and to apply visit the NNPD website.
