Celebrate History with the Annual Juneteenth Freedom Festival

The Annual Juneteenth Freedom Festival in Newport News is back! Don’t miss this free family, fun event happening next Saturday, June 17 from noon to 4 p.m. The festival offers African-American historical and cultural information as well as entertainment. juneteenth_SCEnjoy exhibitors and both food and non-food vendors. Guests can expect a host of entertainment from local artists from jazz, R & B, and Mime performances, a steel orchestra band, gospel, and a variety of dance. Bring the children to enjoy air rides, pony rides, popcorn, cotton candy and a special appearance by Bubbles the Clown who also paints faces, dance, and play games.

Hosted by the Downtown Newport News Merchants & Neighbors Association, Inc. in partnership with the City of Newport News and other community organizations, the festival takes place in the City’s Southeast Community at the Farmers Market, 28th Street and Jefferson Avenue. Throughout the day, there will be a van available for an exciting historical tour of the Newsome House Museum and Cultural Center.
