The Economic Crimes Division of the Newport News Police Department has seen an increase in the number of fraudulent credit card use reports.

The reported incidents are happening when citizens leave their vehicle unattended, leaving their wallet, purse, phone or other valuables in plain view for people to see. Unattended purses and valuables are also being stolen from shopping carts inside businesses when citizens aren’t paying attention.
In order to prevent yourself from becoming a victim of these crimes, please remember to remove or hide your valuables, lock your doors before leaving your vehicle unattended, make sure all of the windows are rolled up, sunroof closed, and park in well-lit areas. Never leave your valuables unattended and always be aware of your surroundings.
