The Special Events section plans, manages, and promotes citywide festivals and special events held in the City of Newport News. Individuals, community groups, and businesses can be part of these events as vendors, exhibitors, entertainers, and corporate sponsors.

One City, One Celebration- Victory Landing Park

Enjoy live music and children's activities. Cheer on the runners as they finish the Nautical Mile, the Maritime 8K, and the One City Marathon. Free admission, free parking. Food and beverage vendors ($).

27th Newport News Children's Festival of Friends- Newport News Park
CANCELLED.  This event will not be rescheduled.

Due to the adverse conditions and rainfall that we have experienced over the past week, the City of Newport News has made the decision to cancel the 27th Annual Children’s Festival for the safety of the general public and festival participants. The festival grounds have been severely impacted and the conditions would not be conducive for vehicles and pedestrians. We apologize for the inconvenience.  Kids ages 2 -12 will enjoy over 100 free hands-on activities, costumed characters, and free children’s rides. Food vendors ($) on site. $5.00 per car parking fee, all activities are free.  See here for details about the 2016 Newport News Children's Festival of Friends.

Fridays @ the Fountain
Free concert series featuring two bands each evening, a dance floor, corn hole, lawn games, free children's activities, food vendors, and beverage sales (proceeds benefit Newport News charities). 4th of July Stars in the Sky- Victory Landing Park
The Virginia Peninsula's biggest July 4th event features live music, food vendors ($), free children's rides, and fireworks over the James River. Free admission, free parking.

July 26, 2016; 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM
World Arts Celebration- City Center at Oyster Point

October 1 & 2, 2016; 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
43rd Newport News Fall Festival of Folklife- Newport News Park
Southeast Virginia's biggest traditional craft show features over 200 vendors, traditional crafts and trades, folk entertainment, food vendors ($), and children's activities.$10.00 per car parking fee. See below for 2016 Applications for the Juried & Marketplace Area (handmade crafts), Heritage Area (traditional craft & trade displays and demonstrations), and Country Store Area ("farmers market" items including canned goods and fresh produce). Applications are due April 1, 2016.

City Center Oyster Roast- City Center at Oyster Point
A festival of oysters and other Chesapeake Bay seafood favorites featuring music by local bands. Free children's activities, corn hole, and lawn games. Free admission, free parking. Food and beverages ($).

Celebration in Lights Newport News Park

Saturday, December 3, 2016; 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Hollydazzle City Center at Oyster Point Fountain Plaza
This unique holiday event combines fireworks, special effects, and music in a spectacular show presented “in the round” on the Fountain Plaza. City Center at Oyster Special Events Application:

Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism manages the scheduling of events at City Center at Oyster Point. If you would like have an event at City Center (wedding, charity event, etc.), please call 757-926-1400 and speak to the Special Event staff. The City Center event application is available here. See here for the City Center Wedding Application. The submission of an application DOES NOT reserve a date and DOES NOT mean approval. Special Events staff will review all applications after speaking with the applicants.

Nonprofit and community groups can apply to be exhibitors at Newport News Special Events by calling 757-926-1400. Check this page for updates on events that accept nonprofit and community group exhibitors.  Special Interest Groups (including political groups)  should see the Special Interest Group Festival Space Application, Guidelines & Agreement.


Newport News Parks, Recreation, and Tourism accepts local, regional, and national entertainer submissions for booking consideration. Please forward a press packet with a demo CD and a list of your most recent performances to:
