The Special Events section plans, manages, and promotes citywide festivals and special events held in the City of Newport News. Individuals, community groups, and businesses can be part of these events as vendors, exhibitors, entertainers, and corporate sponsors.

Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism 
Cancels May 2020 Special Events

Newport News Parks, Recreation & Tourism has canceled the Newport News Children’s Festival of Friends (scheduled for May 2), the National Train Day Celebration (scheduled for May 9), and Third Thursdays Live (scheduled for May 21). Newport News officials are continuing to monitor and respond to the coronavirus outbreak. 


Saturday, June 6, 2020; 12:00 PM- 5:00 PM
King-Lincoln Park Day- King-Lincoln Park
The festival features a broad range of free activities for all ages including make-and-take crafts, free Bingo (ages 50 & up), sports activities, community exhibits, and entertainment.  Kids will enjoy free face painting, a moon bounces, and giant slides.  Everyone can enjoy free sno cones and free cotton candy! Free admission, free parking. Food vendors ($).

Saturday, July 4, 2020; 7:00 PM- 10:00 PM
4th of July Stars in the Sky- Victory Landing Park
The event begins with free children’s rides (giant slides, moon bounces, obstacle courses), free face painting, and entertainment.  A spectacular fireworks light up the sky over the James River at 9:30 PM. Free admission, free parking. Food vendors ($).

Summertime Concert Series- King-Lincoln Park
Live music, children's activities, and food vendors. Free admission, free parking. Food vendors ($).

Saturday, August 22, 2020; 4:00 PM- 8:00 PM
World Arts Celebration- City Center at Oyster Point
The diverse cultures in Newport News are celebrated through performances, exhibits of traditional art and crafts, authentic international food vendors, and free hands-on activities. Free admission, free parking. Food and merchandise vendors ($).

Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4, 2020; 10:00 AM- 5:00 PM
Newport News Fall Festival- Newport News Park
The festival features over 150 exhibitors showcasing crafts, heritage trade demonstrations, entertainment, children’s activities, a pumpkin patch, craft beer, and food. Free admission, $5.00 per car parking fee. Food, beverage, and merchandise vendors ($).

Friday, October 23, 2020; 6:00 PM- 9:00 PM
City Center Oyster Roast- City Center at Oyster Point
Enjoy roasted oysters, local seafood specialties, food trucks, and live music.  Beverage sales benefit local charities. Free admission, free parking. Food and beverage vendors (pay-as-you-go) $.

Thursday, November 26, 2020 through Friday, January 1, 2021; 5:30 PM- 10:00 PM each night
Celebration in Lights- Newport News Park
Drive through two miles of holiday light displays. $15.00 per car, $75.00 per bus.
